Preventive dentistry encompasses a wide variety of treatments and procedures. Through preventative dentistry, our team works to ensure your smile is as healthy as possible, and you avoid tooth decay and cavities, which is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.
In our office, we go above and beyond to prevent dental problems. We are concerned about your oral and overall health, which is why we focus on prevention.
Dental Exams and Cleanings
With regular dental exams and teeth cleanings, we can help prevent tooth decay and gum disease. During your cleaning, we remove any plaque or tartar buildup from your teeth. We also perform a full exam of your mouth, checking your teeth and gums for signs of decay, disease, or infection. We will also advise you on how to maintain good dental hygiene at home and recommend any treatments you may need.
Dental examinations are beneficial for patients of all ages, as they allow us to identify any problems that may be developing. By treating these issues early, we can protect patients from discomfort, pain, and more complex dental problems in the future.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride treatments are one of the easiest and most effective ways to prevent tooth decay. These treatments are quick and painless and can be applied when you come in for a routine checkup or cleaning. During a fluoride treatment, the teeth are coated with a topical fluoride solution. This provides the teeth with ongoing protection against tooth decay.
Mouthguards
Mouthguards help prevent damage to the teeth caused by teeth grinding and clenching. They are also good for relieving jaw pain caused by TMJ dysfunctions.
Mouthguards are custom-fitted to your teeth and should be worn while sleeping.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are thin, plastic coatings that fill in the deep grooves in a tooth's surface. These grooves can be hiding places for bacteria, which, if left unchecked, can cause cavities. Sealants form a protective shield over the tooth, preventing bacteria from settling in and causing decay.
Oral Cancer Screening
Oral cancer is a severe disease. However, when caught early, it is treatable. This is why Dr. Danner strongly recommends that patients undergo an oral cancer screening once every six months.
